Rev up your space boards, aqua lungs, for six missions of toadacious, Arcade-style, three-player action!īattletoads Arcade retains the beat 'em up gameplay from its predecessors, with only two vehicle stages. But the ever cautions Dark Queen is not taking any chances, and this time she's brought some new reinforcements in the shape of new baddies like General Vermin and Robo Rat! Our home-toads are rarin' to rumble against the Queen and her villainous sidekicks, Big Blag and Robo-Manus. This time, her wickedness is lurking near the Galactic Corporation's defense fleet aboard her wicked rocket, the Gargantua. Oh and that turbo tunnel level is seriously awful and goes on forever. She's back. I'm quitting at stage 3 because I just don't care anymore. The control mapping might be too much for its own good and what this game is trying to do. Also, frankly, not smart to have the charged moves on the same button that also "morphs" you during your combos. And there's just some really suspect game design choices here, like enemies that you have to wait around until they rush you before you can hit them, or those annoying enemies with the walls. They've given the toads a DMC-lite moveset, but they didn't really get what makes DMC feel great to play. And it just plain doesn't feel good too hit stuff. Combat is often visually messy, hard to see what you're hitting, where the enemies actually are, if your hits are landing or if you're getting hit. It's especially bad in the wake of Streets of Rage 4. You know what I've been trying to be positive about this game since it was revealed, but I just don't like how this plays at all.
